Elizabeth Arnold Hopkins Poe - Edgar's Mother Tragedies and Triumphs American History Social Studies Visual Arts

Elizabeth Arnold Poe - the mother of Edgar Allan Poe - was called "Eliza."  A beautiful actress, she died of tuberculosis before Eddy was three.

Married before she met David Poe, Jr., Eliza was a young widow.  She and David married, in Virginia, during 1806.  Their "marriage bond" survives in the records of Henrico County, Virginia.
