Elizabeth Packard

Elizabeth Packard

In 1860, an Illinois woman named Elizabeth Packard learned about one of her state's unjust laws.

That law allowed husbands to commit their wives to mental institutions without due process, without a trial and with the slightest of endorsements by the doctor in charge of the mental asylum.

This is an image of Elizabeth Packard, in her later years.
