Falkland Islands - Argentina Invades

The Falkland Islands are located about 300 miles off the southeastern shore of Argentina.  Argentinians call the islands the Malvinas and claim ownership of them.

People living on the islands are of British heritage and claim British citizenship.  Britain also claims sovereignty over the Falklands.

In 1982, the territorial dispute turned into a war after Argentina's ruling military junta ordered an invasion of the Falklands.  In this clip - from "20th Century Battlefields" - the father-and-son team of Peter and Dan Snow provide the background details of the trouble and the beginning of war.
