Flying Coffin - Nickname for B-24s

Flying Coffin - Nickname for B-24s American History Tragedies and Triumphs World War II Education

Airmen who flew B-24s sometimes referred to them as “The Flying Coffin.”

One crew (from the 11th Bomb Group, 7th Air Force) - shown here on Funafuti Island, itself the scene of a Japanese air strike in April of 1943 - named their B-24J "A-Tisket A-Tasket A G-I Casket."
