Sylvia and her five boys, the inspiration behind J.M. Barrie's tale of Peter Pan, dealt with the tragic death (at age 44) of Arthur Llewelyn Davies (the boys' father).  Then Sylvia herself became extremely ill with cancer.

Not long after the first performance of Peter Pan, which took place in December of 1904, Sylvia also died, leaving her children as orphans.  Thereafter, J.M. Barrie helped to raise (and financially provide for) the boys.
