Hartford Circus Fire - Aftermath at the Armory Disasters American History Famous Historical Events Tragedies and Triumphs Visual Arts

Following the fire, bodies were initially brought to the Connecticut State Armory where families could attempt to identify their missing loved ones.  The process was overwhelming as people were forced to look under one covering after another. 

At least 100 bodies could not be visually identified, requiring dental records to complete the process.  Others were identified by objects, such as jewelry.
