Hiroshige - Evening Cherry Blossoms, Yoshiwara Gate Tragedies and Triumphs Nineteenth Century Life Geography

Ando Hiroshige, a Japanese artist, created Evening Cherry Blossoms, Yoshiwara Gate between 1833 and 1843.

Hiroshige’s signature, the publisher’s seal, title of this work and the series to which it belongs (Famous Views of the Eastern Capital (Toto Meisho) are all noted on the right side of the print.

Van Gogh was inspired by the colors in Japanese woodblock prints like this.  Click on the image to enlarge its size.
