How Hard Is It to Keep Toiling When the Goal Seems Far Away?

Longfellow's poem, “The Ladder of St. Augustine,” contains these words:

The heights by great men reached and kept
Were not attained by sudden flight,
But they, while their companions slept,
Were toiling upward in the night.

Longfellow, in short, tells us that people who accomplish much in their lives often work harder, and sacrifice more, than others.  Do you agree?  Why, or why not?

What are some of the motivators which drive a person to work hard and achieve goals?

Does strong family support help a person to work hard and achieve goals?  Did family support help Margaret Thatcher?
