Ivan the Terrible Murders His Son
Ivan the Terrible fatally wounded the Tsarevich when he struck him in the head with his iron-tipped staff. Ivan Ivanovich died shortly thereafter.
Ilya Repin interpreted the scene, centuries later, in this 1873 painting entitled Tsar Ivan Grozny Killing His Son on 16 November 1581.
