John Bull Locomotive - Final Run

A steam-driven locomotive, made in Liverpool, the John Bull arrived in America in August of 1831.  Making its first run on the 15th of September, that same year - on the Camden and Amboy railroad line (in New Jersey) - John Bull operated until the end of the U.S. Civil War.

In 1981, the Smithsonian provided a thrill for observers who saw the old locomotive make its final run.  This clip records scenes from that event - when the John Bull became the oldest operating steam locomotive in the world.
