John Wilkes Booth was a famous actor considered, by many, to be one of the most handsome men in America in the mid-1860s.
A Southern sympathizer, Booth concocted a plan to kidnap President Lincoln. When that plot failed, he shot Lincoln on the 14th of April, 1865.
