Landing Sites - Mars Exploration Rovers American History Famous Historical Events Aviation & Space Exploration STEM Astronomy

When "Spirit" and "Opportunity" - two of NASA's Mars Rovers - were in development, they had different names.  

MER-A (meaning "Mars Expeditionary Rover A") later became "Spirit."  MER-B (meaning "Mars Expeditionary Rover B") later became "Opportunity."

This NASA graphic illustrates the landing locations, on Mars, for Spirit and Opportunity.
