Les Moulins Draw - Sunken Ships Visual Arts Famous Historical Events World War II

American forces deliberately sank ships in the artificial port they had created at Omaha Beach.  These "Liberty" ships created much-needed breakwaters for the artificial harbor. 

In this image, we see 13 ships forming a protective screen for other vessels which are unloading on the beach.
