Lincoln Assassination - Bullet, Probe and Skull Fragments American History Famous Historical Events Assassinations American Presidents

Dr. Joseph K. Barnes presided over an autopsy on Abraham Lincoln. During the process, examining physicians used the probe (shown in this picture) to search-for the single ball which had killed the President.

They also used the probe to remove fragments of Mr. Lincoln's skull—also seen above—which had been damaged by the fatal shot.

These items are now maintained at the National Museum of Health and Medicine in Silver Spring, Maryland.
