Braveheart - MORE LINKS ABOUT THE STORY

Today the approximate site of William Wallace's execution is marked by a plaque. Among other things, the tribute notes:  "His example, heroism and devotion inspired those who came after him to win victory from defeat and his memory remains for all time a source of pride, honour and inspiration to his countrymen." The movie Braveheart, starring Mel Gibson, won many Academy Awards, including best picture. Some of the details, however, are not historically accurate.

Edward II, the first Prince of Wales, was not cut from the same cloth as his father. An ineffectual king, he lost the battle for Scotland to Robert the Bruce.

The BBC has an excellent site on William Wallace.
