Map Showing Legaspi in Philippines World War II Geography

It was on December 12, 1941 - five days after the bombing of Pearl Harbor - that Japanese General Kimura and his detachment landed at Legaspi (in The Philippines).

Since the nearest American and Filipino forces were about 150 miles away, Kimura met no resistance.  He quickly gained control of the airfield and the terminus of the Manila Railroad.
