Mary Surratt Crimes and Criminals American History Famous Historical Events Trials Nineteenth Century Life

Mary Surratt, a 42-year-old widow living in her boardinghouse on H street - in Washington City - was accused of being a conspirator, with John Wilkes Booth, to kill Abraham Lincoln. 

Her trial, based on those charges, began about a month after President Lincoln's assassination.
