This image depicts what is believed to be the first photograph of Leon Czolgosz, President William McKinley's assassin, after his arrest.  Seen from his prison cell, Czolgosz bears the marks of a beating.

Appearing on the cover of a special "McKinley Extra," published by Leslie's Weekly on 9 September 1901, the photo was taken by Judge Company.  The Library of Congress, where the publication is maintained, describes it with these words:

Title: Leon F. Czolgosz, the assassin

Summary: Reproduction of first photograph of Leon F. Czolgosz, the assassin of President William McKinley, in jail.
