Normandy: Sword Beach - Tim Kilvert-Jones

Normandy: Sword Beach - Tim Kilvert-Jones Disasters Famous Historical Events World War II

The town of Caen, in Normandy, was an important part of General Montgomery's plan to invade France.  The 3rd British Infantry Division's landings at Sword Beach would play a pivotal role in achieving that objective.

But ... the 3rd Division was unable to capture Caen on D-Day (the first day of the Normandy invasion).  Before they could even secure a beachhead, the men of the 3rd were attacked by Germany's 21st Panzer division.

Although the men of the 3rd defeated the men of the 21st, it took hours to accomplish.  Displaying incredible courage, to withstand the power of the panzer attack, the Brits fought on.

Some of the men who survived - then went on to capture Caen - tell their stories in this book.
