Oliver Cromwell, Lord Protector

History records that when Oliver Cromwell (voted, in 2002, as one of the top-ten greatest Brits of all time) commissioned a portrait of himself, he instructed the painter:

I desire you would use all your skill to paint my picture truly like me ... warts and everything.

The artist, Sir Peter Lely, apparently knew how to follow directions.
