Operation Overlord - Training for the Beach Assault Famous Historical Events Geography Social Studies World War II Tragedies and Triumphs

Many American troops trained for the Normandy amphibious landing and beach assault at a special center in Woolacombe, England.  Lt. Col. Paul W. Thompson was in charge of that facility.

This photograph depicts D-Day training operations, in England, for the beach assault.  It is included in Gordon A. Harrison's book Cross-Channel Attack, Chapter V ("Overlord Revised"), at page 163.
