Oracle Warning To Oinomaos

This slide highlights some of the myths involving a scene on the East Pediment of the Temple of Zeus at Olympia.

King Oinomaos, father of the beautiful Hippodameia, was about to start a chariot race against Pelops, who wished to marry the King's daughter. If the King won the race, Pelops would not only lose the race, he would lose his life.

However ... if Pelops won the race, he could marry the King's daughter.
