Character Education & AwesomeStories - Patriotism/Citizenship

"Nelson Mandela", Leader of South Africa, People, Fair Use.

The character traits of Patriotism and Citizenship have particular importance in today's changing world. It means that you abide by the law and get involved with service to your school, yor community and your country.  It means that you hold a love and loyalty to your country.

One of the best examples of this trait can be found in the story of Nelson Mandela. He was a man who loved his country of South Africa—even though being black in South Africa, during many decades, meant Mandela had no say in the government or future course of his country.

Knowing this was wrong, Mandela protested against this discrimination and was imprisoned for his activism and beliefs. He demonstrated such determination to make his country a true democracy, and his story is truly exciting.  You can read about him here: Invictus
