Pilgrims in England - 1st Stop, Southampton

Pilgrims in England - 1st Stop, Southampton Geography Social Studies Ethics

The Leiden Separatists, who would later be known as "The Pilgrims," wanted to leave Europe for America so they could practice their religion as they pleased.  They also wanted a new place to raise their children.

After leaving The Netherlands, the Pilgrims reached the port of Southampton aboard a ship called the Speedwell.  They planned to sail to America using that ship and another vessel known as the Mayflower (which they planned to board in Southampton).
