Pirate Shipwreck - The Whydah Gally

Captain “Black Sam” Bellamy (a notorious pirate who was born in Devonshire, England) lost his flagship (the Whydah Gally) - which he'd captured from the British in February of 1717 - when a storm overpowered him, and his crew, on April 26, 1717.

He and 143 members of his crew died in the wreck (just off the Cape Cod coast).  Only two men survived one of the worst nor'easters ever recorded.

His ship was carrying gold and silver ... lots of gold and silver ... when she sank.

This clip provides interesting background on Bellamy and the only documented discovery of a pirate ship.
