The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has implemented a cash-for-work system to help Haitians clear the streets of rubble and rebuild their lives and towns.

Soon after the January 12 quake, about 1,000 people were employed, earning $3-$5 a day. The UNDP's goal is to employ 10,000 people by the end of January and 210,000 within the following month.
