Raleigh Placing Cloak over Muddy Ground for the Queen

Raleigh Placing Cloak over Muddy Ground for the Queen Biographies Social Studies Visual Arts World History Legends and Legendary People

Sir Walter Raleigh became a favorite of Queen Elizabeth, traveling with her from place to place.  Once, while at Greenwich Palace, he allegedly placed his own cloak over the muddy ground so the Queen had a better place to walk.

This illustration - by T. H. Robinson - depicts that event.  It is from The Story of Sir Walter Raleigh (published in 1906) by Margaret Duncan Kelly.
