Robert Abbott - Bessie Coleman Supporter Tragedies and Triumphs African American History Social Studies Aviation & Space Exploration Visual Arts

Robert Abbott, a Chicago-based lawyer who set-up a newspaper service for African-Americans, was a friend and supporter of Bessie Coleman - America's first black female pilot.

It was Abbott who researched flight training for blacks and who found a school, for Bessie, in France.  He also helped with financial resources so she could actualize her dream.  Abbott knew, among other things, that Bessie's story - if it all came together - would sell newspapers.
