Ruins at the Great Temple of Zeus Ancient Places and/or Civilizations Archeological Wonders Philosophy

Ancient Greeks worshipped Zeus as their chief god. They believed that he lived atop Mount Olympus (the highest mountain in Greece) where the highest peak is called Mytikas.

Some distance southwest from Mt. Olympus (Olympos), Olympia was another place sacred to the ancient Greeks.  This was the location of the Sanctuary where a temple dedicated to Zeus was built.  Olympia is also the place where the ancient Olympics were held every four years for nearly 12 centuries.
