Saipan - Moving Across a Coral Reef Toward Shore American History Tragedies and Triumphs World War II Visual Arts

This image depicts U.S. reinforcements coming ashore at Saipan during the summer of 1944.  A fierce battle for the island took place between Japanese and Allied forces that month.

These reinforcements are making their way across a coral reef after leaving their LSTs off the shore of Saipan.
