Sir Arthur T. Harris  Famous People World War II Visual Arts

Photograph of Air Chief Marshal Sir Arthur Harris.  He was called "Bomber Harris" due to his belief that "area bombing" was an effective method of waging war against Germany.  He, and his decisions - especially the bombing of Dresden, in February of 1945 - remain controversial

During the Normandy invasion, Harris was in charge of the Allies' Bomber Command.
