Stimson's Bomb Message to President Truman

This now-declassified cable from the Secretary of War (Henry Stimson) to President Harry Truman (who was attending the Potsdam Conference in Germany) is dated July 30, 1945.  It advises the President that the atomic bomb is ready for delivery at the President’s order.

The President’s reply is on the reverse side of the cable, per Truman’s note:   “See over.”

Maintained at the Truman Library, this original document has the following description:

Cable, Secretary of War Henry Stimson to President Truman [re atomic bomb] with Truman's handwritten reply.  07/30/1945.
