Surratt Boardinghouse on H Street - Circa, 1865 Nineteenth Century Life Geography Social Studies

Mary Surratt and her children moved to the family's townhouse in Washington City after her husband died, in 1862.  The four-story structure was located on H Street.  This drawing, from the U.S. National Archives, depicts how the home appeared at that time.

This view, of the Surratt Boardinghouse, is facing southwest.  According to the Archives, it was created in about 1865.
