Surratt Tavern - Surrattsville

Surratt Tavern - Surrattsville Nineteenth Century Life American History Famous Historical Events Geography Social Studies

Mary Surratt and her husband, John, lived in a place called Surrattsville (today Clinton, Maryland) until John died.  They had a home which also served as an inn and tavern - plus a local post office - in addition to their farm land.

A.M. Callem created this drawing of the Surratt tavern, in Surrattsville.  It appeared in the March 9, 1867 issue of Harper's Weekly.
