The Temple Of Artemis
The Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was a magnificent building dedicated to the goddess Artemis. The temple was built like a church to honor gods and goddesses.Did you know the temple was first built in 350 B.C.E.? The temple is located in Turkey.
There is something creepy I want to tell you. The temple was being hunted down by Mother Nature, so the Greeks kept on rebuilding it until they stopped. The temple now is in ruins. So if you try to visit, it will not be so beautiful.
The Hanging Gardens Of Babylon
The Hanging Gardens of Babylon was an amazing building made for queen Amuhia. It actually was a garden of paradise with very astonishing architecture for its time. The building was built around 600 BCE.
Try to figure out where it was built … Duh, Babylon. It was built to please the queen! Archeologists think that the gardens were laid on a building. The building was said to rise from 75 to 300 feet!!!!
The Pharos (Lighthouse) Of Alexandria
Sostratus of Cnidus built this marvelous lighthouse. It helped ships know there’s land ahead. The lighthouse was built during the 3rd century B.C. The lighthouse was built on the island of Pharos. They used stone and other minerals to do the lighthouse.
Did you know the lighthouse was destroyed by an earthquake?
The Great Pyramid of Giza
One of the marvelous pyramids was made for King Khufu. These pyramids were made for kings and queens. The tallest pyramid, the Great Pyramid of Giza was completed in 2680 B.C. They were built near modern day Cairo.
No one knows how they built it. Strange, right? It is the only ancient wonder that still stands.
The Colossus At Rhodes
The statue was built by a sculptor named Charles and was built to honor the god Helios. It was completed in 280 B.C. The statue was built in Rhodes to honor the god Helios.
It was destroyed in a earthquake. No one knows how they built it. It could be aliens! Just kidding, or am I?
The Statue of Zeus At Olympia
Made by the Greek sculptor Phidias, it was created to honor the Greek god Zeus. It was built in the 5th century B.C.
Built in Olympia, Greece, the statue was about 13 m (43 ft) tall. It was built to honor the god Zeus. It is lost, gone without a trace. Sad, sad. What do you think, huh?
The Mausoleum At Halicarnassus
This tomb was built by Artemisia II of Caria, in memory of her husband because he died. What a love story.
Constructed in 353 B.C., it was built in Halicarnassus. It stood 148 feet tall. It was destroyed in an earthquake.
