The Black Death - Saving Lives by Fleeing Town

People sick with the plague died at the incredible rate of 600 per day.  In September, 1347, the plague enters France, through merchant ships.  Then it reached Spain where about 60% of the people living in Barcelona perished.

The Pope, living in Avignon, was urged to leave.  Half the people in Paris died, when the pestilence reached that city.  There was nothing anyone could do to cure the disease.  All that anyone could do to save themselves - perhaps - was to flee.  But if one were poor, how could that happen?
