The Chicago Tribune - Before the Great Fire of 1871 American History Disasters Famous Historical Events Social Studies Tragedies and Triumphs Nineteenth Century Life

People working for the Chicago Tribune, in October of 1871, believed their building was "fireproof."  It had a wooden roof, however, which led to its demise.  Like so many other buildings in the neighborhood, it became a victim of the Great Fire of 1871.
