The O'Leary Barn

The O'Leary Barn American History Disasters Famous Historical Events Nineteenth Century Life Tragedies and Triumphs

Although Mrs. O'Leary had nothing to do with the start of the Great Fire - pursuant to the Official Investigation Report - it is clear that the fire started in the O'Leary's barn.

This photograph depicts that barn.

From the barn, the fire quickly made its way to Chicago's business district.  This graphic depicts the fire's path, from the O'Leary's property to just past the intersection of Fullerton and Clark (near Lincoln Park).
