Student Stories on the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World - The Seven Wonders by Yatziel Rivera

The Pharos, or Lighthouse of Alexandria, was a huge structure that was made in 268 B.C. It stood 499 feet up to the sky. It helped nearby ships to see where they were going like lighthouses today. But today the lighthouse is kind of gone, it was destroyed by an earthquake in 1480.

The lighthouse was created by a man named Sostratus of Cnidus. He, of course, had many others help to make it. It was made on an island named Pharos.

The Temple of Artemis was a beautiful creation that stood in Ephesus (modern day Turkey). But in 262 A.D it was destroyed, was looted and set on fire. Then a flood happened.

The man that had the idea to build it was King Croesus of Lydia. A man named Cherisiphron and his son named Metagenes designed and built it. They built it in 550 B.C.

Chersiphron and Metagenes made it to honor the goddess Artemis. That is why it was called the Artemesium.

The statue of Zeus, of course, honors Zeus. I mean, it's on the name. A man named Phidias made the statue.  We don't know for sure when it was made, but we think it was somewhere near 460 B.C.E.

This statue was 40 feet tall. It was made in Olympia. It was destroyed by a fire.

The Great Pyramid of Giza is one of the wonders that is still here to see. A pharaoh named Khufu wanted to make the pyramids, but the pharaoh had slaves work on them.

The pyramids were made in 2630 B.C. - 2611 B.C. but the Great Pyramid of Giza is the tallest with the height of 455 feet. The reasoning for the 3D triangle was made so when the pharaoh died people would put him in there. A Google map takes us to the Great Pyramid of Giza.

Here is a video of all the seven wonders of the ancient world.
