The Tell Tale Heart and the Old Man with the Vulture Eye

Russell Hoban, an American writer and artist, created this drawing of the murderer—in Edgar Allan Poe’s “The Tell-Tale Heart”—shining his lantern on the sleeping old man.

The illustration appears in Tales and Poems of Edgar Allan Poe, published by Macmillan in its 1963 (New York) edition.
