Titanic Sinking - Disaster in the North Atlantic

Although there were not enough life boats aboard the Titanic, at least 473 additional people could have been saved if all the places in the lowered boats had been filled.

Survivors reported that when the ship sank, it seemed as though it was sucking in the ocean, with a strong force pulling them backward.  This video clip features an animated recreation of what likely happened when Titanic sank.

NOTE the recreated scene where the order is given to turn the ship "hard to starboard," but the helmsman is turning the ship hard to port.  In light of recent revelations by 2nd Officer Lightoller's grandaughter - in her book Good as Gold - the steering-error discussion continues.
