Truman's Personal Response to Stimson

President Truman responded to Henry Stimson's message of July 30, 1945 by writing on the reverse side of that cable.  This is the only written, publicly available authority from the President to use the first atomic bomb.

He notes:

Release when ready but not sooner than August 2.
