Victims Trapped in Outlying Areas American History Disasters Social Studies Nineteenth Century Life Tragedies and Triumphs

Father Peter Pernin, a parish priest for the towns of Peshtigo and Marinette, wrote an eyewitness account about the tragedy.  He tells us that people in outlying areas - such as Sugar Bush - were also impacted by the fire. 

Making matters worse for rural dwellers, it was very difficult for rescue workers to reach them.
