William Henry Harrison - also called "The General" by Solomon Northup - became America’s ninth President after he was elected in 1840.

In office one month, he was the first U.S. President to die in office.

This image, which was used during the presidential campaign of 1840, depicts him as a military hero of the Battle of Tippecanoe. The Library of Congress provides more details:

Print shows presidential candidate William Henry Harrison as a military leader in dress uniform holding his sword. A laurel wreath below his portrait names him as a hero of War of 1812 battles. This portrait was issued as a separate political campaign print by the publishers of the U.S. Military magazine in Philadelphia in 1840.

Harrison’s 1840 campaign, intended to defeat the sitting President (Martin van Buren), was very successful. His political ads and slogans are still studied.

Known as "Tippecanoe," because of his military efforts in the famous battle, Harrison was able to capitalize on his prior fame with a popular campaign song and slogan: "Tippecanoe and Tyler, too." It stood for Harrison plus his running-mate, John Tyler.

Tyler became America's tenth President, barely more than a month after he was sworn-in as Vice-President.
