Indiana Jones, a beloved cinematic archaeologist, is in for a wild adventure in his fourth film. Narrowly escaping a nuclear explosion, he searches for a crystal skull with magical powers. Along the way, he finds himself in restricted territory (at Area 51), views the mysterious Nazca Lines (in Peru) and ends up at the stunningly beautiful Iguazu Falls (at the border of Argentina and Brazil). This story provides a bit of background on each of those subjects.
The crystal skull, depicted in this image, is maintained at the British Museum (in London). Photo, by Rafal Chalgasiewicz, online Wikimedia Commons. LICENSE: CC BY 3.0
It is at least 3,600 years old
and according to legend
was used by the High Priest of the Maya
when performing esoteric rites.
It is said that when he willed death
with the help of the skull,
death invariably followed.
