"Bloody Mary"Mary Tudor was the daughter of Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon (the king's first wife). She became queen after her brother, Edward, died (of tuberculosis) in July of 1553 and the effort to have Lady Jane Grey rule the country was quickly ended. Queen Mary was known, perhaps unfairly, as "Bloody Mary" for the many executions of Protestants which took place during her reign. She died in November of 1558.
