Alamo - As It Appears TodayThe Alamo - formerly a Catholic mission and fortress known as San Antonio de Valero - is located in San Antonio, Texas. It was the scene of a famous siege and battle, in 1836, as people in the Texas Territory asserted their independence from Mexico (the mother country). Small in size, especially compared with its San Antonio surroundings, the Alamo remains large in Texas (and in American history). Every year, on March 6th - the day of its fall, in 1836 - people "Remember the Alamo!" Click on the image for a better view.
