Alice Hathaway LeeTheodore Roosevelt fell in love with Alice Hathaway Lee and married her soon after he graduated from Harvard, in 1880. On the 12th of February, 1884, the Roosevelts had a baby daughter, named after her mother. Two days later, TR's wife died. He lost his own mother on the same day. He never spoke of, or wrote about, his first wife ever again. The pain, he said, was too great.
