Athens - View of the Ancient CityThis is an interpretive view of the ancient city of Athens, after its citizens (uniting with other Greeks) were ultimately successful in repulsing Persia's invasion attempts. Sacked once by Xerxes, Athens was rebuilt and the Parthenon was erected (between 447-438 B.C.) to give thanks to Athena, the city's patron goddess, for her help in the Persian Wars.
