Attila the Hun - Battle of the Catalaunian Plains

Attila continued as a threat against Rome and demanded significant tribute from its ambassadors.  Then Attila announced he would commence a battle in Gaul (modern France).  This meant that Aetius, the Roman general, and Attila would meet each other on the battlefield.  Citizens, meanwhile, fled in advance of the Huns' arrival.

Caught offguard, during the battle, Attila moved his troops to an area known as the Catalaunian Fields.  It was there the great Hunnic leader suffered his first defeat.  He, unlike many others, survived.
